We, the Ministers of Finance from the Visegrad Group met in the High Tatras on 5 October 2018 to present our view on the issues connected to taxation of digital economy.
WE RECOGNISE that digitalization is regarded as one of the most significant development of the economy since the industrial revolution; however, the taxation of the digital economy has not fully reflected the advantage created by the spread of technology.
WE AGREE that that the issue is pressing and deserves our full attention. The lack of a need for physical presence, as well as the increased mobility of the digital market has a negative impact on government revenues as compared with traditional ways of doing business.
WE ARE OF THE VIEW that the best option how to deal with these issues from taxation perspective would be to create an environment that will not prevent progress and to agree on a long-term solution as quickly as possible.
Nevertheless, in the meantime we support the work towards a temporary solution at the EU level — the Digital Service Tax. Therefore, WE SUPPORT, without prejudice to the final text of the Directive, the adoption of the Digital Service Tax as soon as possible.
