Joint Statement by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Visegrad Group on the situation in Burma/Myanmar

25 October 2007

Based on the historical experience of our respective countries, we strongly condemn the brutal crackdown on demonstrators in Burma/Myanmar, and demand the Burmese authorities to immediately release all political prisoners and detainees, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. We also request them to provide full information about the fate of Buddhist monks and democratic activists affected by the repressive measures, and to start a genuine process of democratization and dialogue with all democratic forces in Burma/Myanmar. In this respect, we strongly support the actions by the United Nations.
