Teleconference of Foreign Ministers of the V4 Countries and Germany
On the initiative of the Czech Presidency of the V4 Group, a video conference of the foreign ministers of the V4 countries and Germany took place on Friday, 13 March 2020. The originally planned meeting of ministers in Prague had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am glad that we managed to hold a joint meeting of foreign ministers of the V4 and Germany at least in the form of a videoconference,” said Minister Petříček. “Close cooperation between the V4 and Germany is crucial for Central Europe, but also for the future of Europe as a whole.”
During the talks, the ministers discussed topics such as the priorities of the German EU Presidency, EU relations with the closest neighbouring regions – the Western Balkans and the Eastern Neighbourhood, the EU’s position as a global player on the international stage, and migration and asylum policies. The ministers adopted a joint statement on these issues in which they also expressed their will to continue to cooperate in the V4 and Germany format in the future.
“When we discussed the current topic of the COVID-19 pandemic, we agreed that the solution cannot only be at the national level, but that it was a common European and global problem where common resources would have to be involved,” the head of Czech diplomacy said. The ministers praised the German government's decision to make exceptions to the export of medical supplies.
